We chatted with Juliana’s nurse Rachel today for an update as we spent today all the way home working on a few errands. Her rate has been turned down to 18 as they continue the weaning process. The plan is to start her on a course of steroids starting tonight so that she will be ready to be extubated sometime on Thursday. Hopefully, she will do well with that. She is still aspirating a lot of her feeds, so they have put the continuous feed on hold for a little while to give her a rest. The eye doctor stopped by today and checked her out for ROP, which is Retinopathy of Prematurity. Her results were “immature” so they will be checking again next week. I guess that is another way to say inconclusive because she is so small. There is a strong chance because of her early birth that she will have some sort of ROP issue, but we’ll see what cards we are dealt. Here is a picture of her wide awake from yesterday:
